Zahid also disclosed that opposition MPs, some of whom were former ministers and deputy ministers, had approached him with a proposal to form a new lineup within the unity government on the condition that they be given four ministerial positions.
“Last week, opposition MPs came to meet me,” he said.
“They said, let’s work together to form a new government under the banner of a unity government. They asked to be included in the government and requested four ministerial positions.”
Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi dropped a bombshell today, revealing attempts to persuade Barisan Nasional (BN) to withdraw from the unity government and form a new one, with an offer of the Prime Minister’s position in exchange.
The BN chairman, who is also the Deputy Prime Minister, however, did not reveal who made these attempts.
“There have been offers, saying that they want to replace the current government, and suggesting that BN will be the prime minister.
“I said to them – no way, don’t ever waste your time.
“We must strengthen this unity government,” he said at the Federal Territories BN convention here, today.
“My answer was firm. I will not betray my friends even though I have been betrayed before, and that is what I stand by,” he said.
Zahid, who is also Umno president, also disclosed that there were opposition members of Parliament who came to see him last week asking him to form a “new unity government”.
“In return, they asked for four cabinet posts to be given to them.
“Why do they feel that way? Because they have tasted blood, they know what it feels like to become ministers.”
He said the actions of opposition MPs proved that their strength was waning.
“So I’m asking all of you here. Are we strong enough? Not yet. Is the opposition strong? They are weakening,” he added.
He warned BN members not to take advantage of others to get ahead.
“Don’t step on others to rise. When we do that, we will fall in disgrace.
“As easy as it was for us to climb, it will be easy for us to fall. This is not in the Quran or hadith, this is the nature of politics,” he said.
Is Muhyiddin under siege, caught unaware he’s surrounded by enemies from within his own party?
A SOCIAL media influencer has expressed surprise as to how Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who is touted as the mastermind of the Sheraton Move which eventually led to his appointment as the eighth prime minister (PM8) can be so oblivious to the presence of a snake in the grass in his party.
This came about as A.Quddus (@usernamekudus) questioned the absence of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman’s name in the list of top brass line-up for the purported Sheraton Move 2.0 orchestrated by the opposition front by bringing UMNO into the equation.
“Why didn’t he ask @hamzahzainudin (secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin)? Isn’t there a WhatsApp group in Bersatu?” asked a baffled A.Quddus.
The poster was referring to what was described as a backdoor government list exposed by political activist Liyana Marzuki who claimed that “a Little Bird has shared the line-up proposed to UMNO” with her.
The list, among others, named Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi as the PM candidate with Terengganu Menteri Besar and PAS vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar as Deputy PM.
Other nominees included Radzi as Finance Minister, Hamzah (Home Minister), Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee (Agriculture Minister) and PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man (Religious Affairs Minister).
Reacting to the line-up which she described as nothing more than “political gossip”, Liyana reckoned that there could be a hidden agenda in its circulation.
” I receive many such gossips. Sometimes they are merely a smokescreen, sometimes they want to use me to push a particular narrative. But whether the above gossip is true or not, it’s simple for me. The fact is that the present government is hard to topple.”
As the above development unfolded, Muhyiddin who is also the Pagoh MP had cleared the air by having stated that no leader of the opposition coalition had been given the mandate to negotiate with BN to form a new unity government.
He also denied claims that PN had anything to do with the statement made by Zahid who is also the UMNO president that there had been attempts to woo BN away from the current Madani government.
At the same time, Malay language news portal Sinar Harian has cited Muhyiddin as confirming the appointment of Azmin who is the Selangor Bersatu chairman as the party’s and PN’s new secretary-general to replace Opposition leader and Larut MP Hamzah who is now the Bersatu deputy president.
It was previously reported that Azmin who is also the Hulu Kelang state assemblyman had turned down the offer as he wanted to focus on leading Selangor PN to victory in the next state polls.

Hadi: Pas ready for talks, has never given up on wooing Umno
Pas admitted today (Sept 14) that the party has never given up hopes to cooperate with Umno again to revive the Muafakat Nasional (MN) alliance.
President Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said efforts were being made to lure Malay leaders and non-Muslims who were not extreme.
“Yes, yes… Pas is still open to cooperate with Umno,” he told reporters at the 70th Pas annual muktamar at the Al-Makmur complex in Kerdau here today.
When asked about Umno’s reaction towards reviving MN, Hadi said there were differences between Umno as a party and the people in Umno.
“Umno has its own ‘undang-undang tubuh’ (constitution) and some have ‘lari’ (strayed away) from the constitution, whereas some still remain strong to its policies.
“Umno and Pas had previously cooperated together when fighting for the country’s independence, and we were together when placing Islam as the official religion,” he said.

PAS ready to work with Umno again
PAS is ready to work with Umno once again through its Muafakat Nasional (MN) pact, but not with leaders who are deemed willing to team up with DAP.
PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man believed that most of Umno’s members still had a fondness for the MN alliance which the two parties formalised in 2019, as they want Malay political parties to be united.
“The MN platform to unite the ummah is still open, and PAS, with Bersatu in Perikatan Nasional, is confident that the ummah needs to be united and work together to rebuild the nation.
“But we must get rid of those who have a personal agenda and had put aside this agenda (of uniting the ummah), being willing to ally with DAP when they used to oppose them,” he told FMT.

Umno-PAS leaders met to discuss election pact for GE16, says Fadhli
Umno leaders have met with PAS on several occasions to discuss an alliance for the next general election, the Islamic party’s information chief Ahmad Fadhli Shaari claims.
He said the meetings were “informal” and involved the top leaderships of both parties, Utusan Malaysia reported.
Fadhli also claimed that an Umno leader whom he did not name had said that he was in a “dilemma” as he was working with the unity government. He said the Umno leader had described this as being to the party’s detriment.
“In one of the meetings, they expressed hope that Umno would go back to working with PAS, but they were too afraid to go against their president’s decision,” Fadhli was quoted as saying, referring to Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“They also hope that the Umno president will have a change of heart as the vision he is pushing for is not shared by the grassroots. This is what they (the grassroots) tell me.”
Fadhli added however that the idea of an alliance between PAS and Umno was only talk at this point.
Barisan Nasional (BN), Umno’s umbrella coalition, has yet to make an official decision on an alliance for GE16. However, Zahid who is BN chairman has repeatedly said that the coalition will continue its present cooperation with Pakatan Harapan (PH) at the next nationwide polls.
Umno deputy president Mohamad Hasan meanwhile has said that BN could go solo once Umno has regained its strength.
And Umno Supreme Council member Jalaluddin Alias was reported as saying that while cooperation between BN and PH is smooth at the federal level, the same cannot be said at the state levels.
Fadhli said that based on what the Umno leader had shared with him, he was confident that others had realised the Malays’ rejection of the BN-PH alliance and were now afraid that it would lose the next election.
“They don’t regret the cooperation with PH, but they feel they are in a tight spot as Umno is keeping PH in power.”
He also said that his party had no issues with Zahid and would be willing to work with him if he wanted to join forces with PAS.
“It’s not that we don’t like him, we are just not too fond of his attitude. But if he says he wants to work with PAS, we can talk,” he said, expressing confidence that Umno would win more seats with PAS than through a continued alliance with PH.
