Anwar Ibrahim stands as the greatest Bumiputera Muslim leader in Malaysia’s history.
When the day comes for him to retire, every Malaysian — especially the Bumiputera community — must remember him with profound gratitude and thanks. No previous prime minister has championed the Malay, Islamic, and Bumiputera causes with such determination, scale, and results. Past leaders, regardless of how long they served, simply cannot compare.
For over 60 years under Barisan Nasional and 33 months under Perikatan Nasional, the allocation for JAKIM never exceeded RM700 million per year. Under Anwar’s Madani government, it has surged to RM2.6 billion annually to strengthen Syariah Islam and Islamic institutions. This is transformative support for the faith and the community.
In Bumiputera education, Anwar has delivered historic progress. He doubled the allocation to RM6 billion annually for UiTM, MARA, and Yayasan Peneraju, while committing RM200 million to repair and upgrade facilities at Sekolah Agama Rakyat (SAR) and Maahad Tahfiz. These investments secure the future of Bumiputera students and preserve Islamic education.
Anwar is also the first leader in recent memory to deliver a meaningful increase in civil servants’ salaries — a staggering RM18 billion annually. No one — not Najib, Mahathir, Muhyiddin, nor Ismail Sabri — took this bold step to reward the backbone of government service. On the international stage, his government contributed RM200 million in aid to Gaza, demonstrating both compassion and leadership.
Most importantly, under Prime Minister Anwar, the Bumiputera empowerment agenda is no longer the sole responsibility of specific agencies. It has been elevated to a national priority to be pursued by all ministries, government agencies, and Government-Linked Companies (GLCs). This whole-of-government approach marks a historic shift in ensuring the long-term progress and prosperity of the Bumiputera community.
In a historic and unprecedented move, Anwar’s government has declared 50 acres (20.23 hectares) of land in Bandar Malaysia as Tanah Rizab Melayu. This is the first time such a significant addition of Malay Reserve Land has been made in a prime development area, further securing Bumiputera land ownership in the heart of the nation’s future economic hub.
The Madani government further strengthened Bumiputera economic rights by raising the mandatory Bumiputera equity threshold from 30% to 50% for acquiring properties or land valued at RM20 million and above from GLCs and GLICs. This exceeds even the ambitions of the original New Economic Policy (NEP) era and marks a new chapter of empowerment.
Educational equity has also reached new heights. UEC students must now pass Bahasa Melayu and Malaysian History papers at the SPM level, reinforcing national identity.
In the 2025/2026 public universities intake, an impressive 228,930 Bumiputera students secured places in public universities (IPTA), alongside 29,106 non-Bumiputera. This translates to 88.72% Bumiputera enrolment — the highest in the nation’s history. Under BN it hovered around 70-75%, and under PN it reached about 80%. Madani has taken it to nearly 89%.
Anwar has also taken firm steps to reduce social ills. He successfully reduced the frequency of 4D special gambling draws from 22 times per year under PN to just 8 times per year under Madani — a significant move to curb gambling activities in the country.
Even at the state level, the spirit of Madani shines through. Selangor under PH is set to become the first state in Malaysia to ban commercial pig farming. The state government has implemented a halal and haram waste separation policy, while authorities in Kuala Lumpur have taken firm action to uphold Malay as the official national language by addressing non-compliant Chinese signboards.
As a majority Malay Muslim Bumiputera nation, Malaysia’s identity must always be protected. Bahasa Melayu remains our official language and Islam our official religion. Anwar has proven himself to be the greatest defender of these foundational principles. From upholding the Malay language on signboards to advancing halal policies and reducing gambling activities, his commitment is clear and unwavering.
The list of achievements goes on and on. In just four years, the Madani government has delivered more tangible progress for the Malay, Muslim, and Bumiputera communities than decades of BN rule or the short PN administration could achieve. Anwar Ibrahim has put every past Prime Minister to shame through his unwavering commitment to these causes.
In conclusion,
Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has redefined what it means to lead with courage and conviction.
In just four short years, he has achieved what previous governments failed to deliver in decades. From massive financial allocations for Islamic institutions and Bumiputera education, to securing land rights, strengthening economic equity, and upholding our cultural and religious identity, Anwar has written a new and shining chapter in the history of the Malay and Bumiputera struggle.
He is not just a Prime Minister — he is Bapa Bumiputera Malaysia, the greatest Malay Muslim leader this country has ever known. His contributions will echo for generations to come.
Thank you, YAB Anwar Ibrahim. The Malay, Muslim, and Bumiputera community will forever be grateful. You have earned your rightful place as the true champion and hero of our people. Well done, and may your legacy continue to uplift the Bumiputera nation for many years ahead.
