The federal government has agreed to distribute RM500 in special Hari Raya aid for civil servants under the Terengganu government.

The finance ministry said this followed Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s visit to the east coast state last Friday, where he was hosted by Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar.

The ministry said the RM500 aid will benefit more than 14,000 Terengganu civil servants, with the money to be distributed before Aidilfitri, which is expected to fall on March 31.

This initiative will cost Putrajaya about RM7 million.

“The Madani government remains committed to upholding the principles of fairness and humanity so that the nation’s prosperity can be felt by all Malaysians.

“May this contribution bring some added joy to these civil servants who have served (Terengganu) with full dedication,” the Treasury said in a statement.

Samsuri, a PAS vice-president, and Anwar held a special meeting last Friday to discuss the state’s development, joined by Chief Secretary to the Government Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar, among others.

Anwar, who is also finance minister, said they had discussed expediting basic public infrastructure projects needed in Terengganu, from education to healthcare, roads and flood mitigation.
