According to Finance Twitter , Without social media or alternative media, the video clips and the incident where a religious bigot – Abdul Razak Ismail – slapped a non-Muslim – Elijah Ling Zhao Zhong – for eating in public during fasting month of Ramadan would not have been reported, let alone gone viral. It would have been covered up during the era when media outlets were owned, operated, controlled or influenced by the government.
It was because of the loss of control of news media that the Malaysian government had no choice, but to reluctantly charge the Malay-Muslim, whom would have walked away free before the emergence of Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, TikTok and whatnot. In fact, it was a normal process for police officers to ask a victim about the race or ethnicity of the other party before allowing (or disallowing) a report to be lodged.
Yet, despite having lost the control of news media, the new Malaysian government under Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim could still screw up magnificently. The case was thought to be over after the 65-year-old accused pleaded guilty to the charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt, which carries a maximum one-year jail term or a RM2,000 fine, or both.
No one believes he would be sent to jail for obvious reason. At most, he would be fined less than RM2,000 as Type “M” normally gets special privileges. Had a Chinese man slapped a Malay man, you can bet your last penny that all hell will break loose. Of course, it would be worse for an Indian, where it was normal for them to be beaten in police stations till kingdom comes.
KABOOM! – Suddenly Magistrate A Shaarmini gave Abdul Razak a discharge not amounting to an acquittal (DNAA) even though the Malay bully had already pleaded guilty for slapping the 21-year-old Chinese youth on March 16 around 3:45pm at a convenience store, Family Mart in Angsana Mall, Johor Bahru. The judge was confused over the sudden DNAA order from the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC).
The DNAA has been a favourite word among crooks and corrupt leaders like former Prime Minister Najib Razak and his wife Rosmah Mansor, as well as current Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi – all of whom had received the DNAA from prosecutors, who are under the Prime Minister Office. Basically, DNAA is a not-guilty card decorated with a gimmick that one can still be charged at an unknown date.
The hilarious part was that while the Malay bully admitted to slapping the Chinese, he disagreed with the timing when he unleashed his assault. He also claimed that his slap was not hard enough to leave a bruise, even though a medical report confirmed that the victim suffered bruising on his right cheek. The bigot talked as if he was there to observe the Chinese man for bruises, which could appear within a few hours.
The biggest joke, therefore, was when the prosecutor informed the court of a AGC’s new directive to classify the case as DNAA, prompting the magistrate to inquire whether charges would be refiled. The DPP (deputy public prosecutor) then said the case would be reviewed before any further action, leading to confusion and frustration that the case was dropped even before it began.
It was a slap in the face of Anwar government when DPP Nor Afiqah Musa informed the court that the prosecution had received “new instructions” to proceed with a new charge against the accused due to a technical issue. The burning question is how could the prosecutor so clueless and incompetent that they were struggling even in such a small and simple case?
It appears as if the prosecutors might have an initial intention to create a defective charge sheet to free the Malay bigot, the same way corrupt crooks like Najib Razak, Zahid Hamidi, Rosmah Mansor, Riza Aziz, and Irwan Serigar Abdullah were released through DNAA. Interestingly, for the first time since PM Anwar became prime minister, he has condemned (through his press secretary) the slapping incident.
Suspiciously though, the prime minister could be trying to appease the Chinese voters by pretending to be upset over the assault, whilst at the same time instructed the Attorney General’s Chambers not to punish the Malay bully through a problematic charge sheet, which had to be amended immediately upon public uproar. The attempt to test the water seems to have backfired.
If the clueless public prosecutors cannot even be trusted to ensure justice is served without fear or favour in the case of a Malay-Muslim slapping a non-Muslim, exactly how could they be trusted to ensure crocodiles like Najib receives punishment he deserves after stealing billions of dollars from the 33 million Malaysians? And Anwar had the cheek to defend Najib by slashing his jail sentence and to bulldoze house detention.
After Abdul Razak was recharged, he pleaded not guilty. Don’t be surprised if the court has to let him walk a free man without any punishment because the public prosecutor screws up again. When that happens, scumbags like UMNO Youth Chief Akmal Saleh, who has been as quiet as a church mouse over the slapping incident, would demand everyone to respect the judiciary.
The Attorney General’s Chambers have many ways to ensure “Type M” does not go to jail after assaulting “Type C” or “Type I”. It has even more tricks up its sleeve to ensure “Elite Type M” avoids prison after plundering national coffers to the tune of billions of dollars. Throws in “Super Elite Type M” ready to grant royal pardons for “Elite Type M”, and you have a judiciary perverted by power-hungry politicians.
Make no mistake – PM Anwar suddenly dares to speak up against fellow Malay bully only after he found it safe to do so without sparking anger from Malay voters. Besides, Elijah Ling Zhao Zhong is from Sarawak, hence, the premier cannot afford to offend governing partner GPS (Gabungan Parti Sarawak) for fear of losing power. It might be a different story had the youth was a normal Chinese from Malaya.
